Mission to the USA - February, 2007

The Leber family is now stretched over ten thousand miles, from East Africa to the United States. Phil continues the Worship Foundations teaching missions and overseeing development work in Northern Uganda. Jennifer is spending these months visiting churches and groups in the U.S. concerned about the devastating impact of the rebel conflict in Northern Uganda on a generation of traumatized children who have lost all hope for the future.

We have exciting news - David has been accepted at Gordon Conwell Seminary and he will begin there next fall. He would like to teach at a theological school in Africa training African pastors at some point after seminary. Owen has transferred to Longwood College in Virginia and has been attending their Intervarsity fellowship. The transition from Africa to America is never easy, but we are so pleased to see that Owen has stayed steady in his pursuit of growing in his relationship with Christ and he has not been taken up in the wave of immorality that permeates our culture.

During the month of February, Jennifer is traveling with Phoebe Orombi, wife of the Archbishop Henry Orombi, and Rev. Helen Oneka, lead women's worker for the Church of Uganda. Mamma Phoebe, as she is affectionatly called, has never traveled on a mission trip without the Archbishop and this mission has given many women an opportunity to be inspired in their walk with Christ as they hear about her life of prayer. They will be speaking to the women in five states at churches in Georgia, California, Texas, and Virginia and a Baptist Church in Naples, Florida. Phoebe will also be preaching in three churches during this mission.

At Christ Church in Savannah, Mamma Phoebe said, "“We are standing on the Gospel that your great-grandfathers brought us. Your forefathers suffered many hardships to bring the Gospel to Africa and many died for their faith. Today we have to stand on that Gospel. If we don’t preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ what will our children inherit? Today Africa is preaching the Gospel because it came from America.”

In Newport Beach, California the team visited St. James Anglican Church. They were warmly received by everyone, especially the Rector, Rev. Praveen Bunyan. They had a powerful 2 hour prayer time with the intercessors. One of the intercessors felt God impressed the following on her heart - “I have sent you a love letter. I have sent St. James these women from Uganda as My love letter - to be written on the flesh of your hearts. These are my prophets sent to you and the timing is strategic. Would you receive them and write them on your hearts?” The following day there was a large women’s gathering of 180 women from 18 churches, including women from both the Baptist and Pentecostal churches. The conference is was called “Touching Hearts and Joining Hands”. Many hearts were touched with the power of the Holy Spirit as Mamma Phoebe, Rev. Helen Oneka and Jennifer spoke.

In San Antonio Texas, the team is hosted by Christ Church. Mamma Phoebe spoke to a luncheon of nearly 100 people on her vision of Women of Purpose. She will preach at Christ Church on Sunday on Abiding in Christ. In Naples, Florida, Mamma Phoebe will speak to a Bible study group of more than 250 women where she will talk on the Power of our Prayers. In Virginia, Mamma Phoebe will speak to large gatherings from Truro, All Saints, South Riding Anglican Church, and to several groups gathered in homes.

There are interecessors in Uganda praying for this mission and Jennifer has nine intercessors in the USA praying as well. The ungirding of prayer has oiled the team with unity and Jennifer received the following e-mail which encouraged the team as they continue to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit - “Thank you for your obedience to the Lord and the seeds sown into the hearts of women during your ministry at St James Newport Beach.”
